Hope in the Waiting: A Place for Hope, Healing, and Remembrance
How a local nonprofit is bringing comfort, connection, and hope to families experiencing pregnancy and infant loss.
October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, a time to acknowledge families whose lives have been forever changed by the loss of a baby. Here in Pitt County, one nonprofit is working to make sure those families feel seen, supported, and remembered.
Hope in the Waiting is dedicated to providing comfort and connection to families who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss. Through thoughtful care packages, peer-support gatherings, community events, and outreach, the organization reminds parents that their babies matter and that they do not have to navigate grief alone.
A Mission Born From Personal Loss
The story of Hope in the Waiting began in 2021, when founder Elizabeth Parrish felt called to turn her own heartbreak after four miscarriages into a source of comfort for other families.
Having experienced pregnancy loss herself, Elizabeth understood how important it is for grieving parents to feel acknowledged, to have space to remember their babies, and to connect with people who understand. What began as a personal calling grew into a mission to walk alongside families facing one of life's most difficult experiences.
In 2023, Hope in the Waiting officially became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Its mission reflects a simple belief: every baby deserves to be remembered, every parent deserves to be acknowledged, and no family should have to grieve alone.
The organization's work is rooted in the message of comfort found in 2 Corinthians 1:3–4—receiving comfort and extending it to others.

Hope Mamas is a peer-support gathering where bereaved mothers can connect with others who understand their experiences in a welcoming, judgment-free environment.
Community Events
Remembrance events and gatherings offer families opportunities to honor their babies, share their stories, and find connection with others in the community.

Hope in the Waiting also raises awareness about pregnancy and infant loss and helps families connect with compassionate resources and support.
